There are many ways to take medical cannabis and each method works differently, so, we wanted to share how these effects might work on some of our Illinois patients.
This is the process that in the past has been most common. It involves burning the leaf and inhaling the released cannabinoids via smoke. This process will provide immediate effects to the brain and can last 30 minutes to an hour.
Another popular method is vaporizing, where a vapor device heats the leaf to 350 degrees in order to release the THC. This has much less harmful effects then the inhalation of smoke and has the same affect.
So what is different about ingesting marijuana in edible form?
Ingesting is another way to consume cannabis via infused edibles. They come in savory and sweet items which include various forms of candies, baked goods, chocolates, and many other types of cannabis infused products. The effects take longer to be felt but can last up to 5 hours. It is recommended to start with a very low dosage, 5 mg, and wait an hour to feel the effects before eating more.
Note: If you have cannabis infused foods, make sure to store them properly (in the child proof bags) and away from children as they can be mistaken for common candies or foods.
