There are many anecdotal stories that cannabis can help cancer patients, but what does that actually mean? It cannot cure cancer outright but what is the hopeful future cannabis holds in cancer treatment?
Cannabis, when used as a medication, has a number of effects that can help cancer specific treatments. Marijuana’s properties can help with pain relief, reduction of nausea, anxiety and induce hunger. These can help with chemotherapy patients who will experience all of these as well as loss of appetite. It is important that a patient continue to eat during their therapy process and cannabis is a more natural way to induce hunger as well as reduce pain in patients undergoing chemo.
Cannabis has also been tested and shown positive results in the killing of cancerous cells, there have been no official statements, however, the initial reports are promising.
